Perfumed Kylie Minogue waxwork unveiled at Madame Tussauds

Washington, Jan 11: Pop princess Kylie Minogue has become the only person other than the Queen to have four waxwork models of herself at London's Madame Tussauds. The singer has also scored a unique number one in becoming the first 'scented' figure, scented with her own signature perfume 'Darling', reports Contactmusic. The unveiling is the first at the tourist attraction for 2007, and coincides with Kylie's return in Britain for the Showgirl Homecoming tour. The likeness shows the 38-year-old in a long red dress, and sitting on a sparkling crescent moon based on part on her recent Showgirl Homecoming Tour. The new waxwork is the latest in a long line of triumphs for the pop icon. She has just knocked Kate Moss off the top spot of Glamour magazine’s best-dressed list, and over Christmas her first perfume, Darling, was the top selling scent in the UK. On February 28, the Victoria & Albert Museum will open a Kylie exhibition featuring costumes and photographs and on Tuesday she unveiled her handprints on the Square of Fame in London.

Kylie Minogue has been handed a special award by Wembley Arena following her sold-out seven night stint at the venue. The Australian pop megastar's tenancy at the famous arena came to an end last night (Tuesday, January 9) after playing to a total of 79,000 fans. The simple silver memento marks the fact that she is one of the most successful female artists to play the flagship London venue.

Breast cancer survivor Kylie Minogue topped the Glamour magazine best dressed list, while former leader Kate Moss slipped to fourth place in the fashion rankings - while her junkie Pete Doherty was named the worst dressed male. Victoria Beckham has risen to second place in this year's list and her obsessive-compulsive husband David has been crowned best dressed man.

Minogue was 26th last year in the best-dressed rankings. Glamour editor Jo Elvin said: "We've seen a newer, softer-looking Kylie emerge this year - she's still sexy, but she's not flaunting that side of herself in gold hotpants any more.

"She's letting it shine through subtly, with a classic personal style that women really identify with."

Minogue kicked off her Showgirl Homecoming Tour in Sydney Nov. 11th. As well as outfits by Galliano, Minogue donned costumes by designers Gareth Pugh, Dolce e Gabbana, Karl Lagerfeld and Emilio Pucci. Among other costumes, the former soap opera teen star wore a pink feathered headdress and flowing gown by designer John Galliano to kick off her renamed "Showgirl Homecoming Tour." She also wore a bejeweled pink corset as she launched the concert with her classic hit "Better The Devil You Know."

A tumor was removed from her left breast in a Melbourne hospital in May. After the operation in her hometown, which forced the postponement of the remaining Showgirl concerts, Minogue underwent chemo treatment in France, where she has been sharing an apartment with her fiancé, actor Olivier Martinez.

During her recovery, she wrote a children's book, "The Showgirl Princess" and recently launched her own perfume, "Darling."

"I feel really inspired, more than I have for quite a while," she said upon her return to Australia. "I'm sure I am going to look back on this period and go `How on earth did I do that?' I'm not a year out of recovery and I'm recording and doing photo shoots, and we've filmed new stuff for the screens for the show. I've hardly stopped."

Minogue became famous in the late 1980s, as a result of her role in the Australian television soap opera Neighbours, before she commenced her career as a pop recording artist. She achieved a string of hit records throughout the world, but her popularity began to decline by the early 1990s. For several years she attempted to establish herself as an independent performer and songwriter, distancing herself from her earlier work. Her projects were widely publicized, but her albums failed to attract a substantial audience and resulted in the lowest sales of her career.

In 2000, Minogue returned to popularity as a dance–pop artist and became well-known for her provocative music videos and expensively mounted stage shows. In Australia, after being dismissed early in her career by some critics, she has been acclaimed for her achievements; she holds the record for the highest ticket sales for an Australian tour by a female performer, and has attained nine number-ones on the ARIA singles chart. She has been acknowledged as the highest selling female recording artist in Australia and Europe of the period from her debut in 1987 to the present.

Iraq holds the world's third largest pool of proven reserves. News reports over the weekend said a compromise over a controversial federal oil law has been reached.
