Diane LaneStagehand Killed on Set of Samuel L. Jackson MovieAn accident on the set of Jackson’s sci-fi movie caused the death of set dresser, David Ritchie (Photo courtesy Paramount) 56-year-old set dresser David Ritchie was killed instantly when a wall collapsed, burying workers below during production of the sci-fi thriller, Jumper, starring Samuel L. Jackson, Hayden Christensen, Diane Lane and Rachel Bison. Another stagehand suffered serious head and shoulder injuries and was rushed to the hospital. The wall was part of a movie set that had been being used during filming on location in Toronto. Olivier Martinez: Leader of the PackHe's that gorgeous dark and handsome hunk who had a steamy affair with Diane Lane's character in Unfaithful. He was a drug kingpin in S.W.A.T. and has recently played a Spanish bullfighter. The French actor (whose first name is pronounced like the classic actor Laurence Olivier) now stars as a hot Romanian who is the leader of a pack of werewolves in the romantic horror/fantasy Blood and Chocolate. We met with Olivier, who has a wicked sense of humor, in a gothic-style church in downtown Los Angeles. The place did remind us of the buildings shown in the film shot in Bucharest, Romania. In black pants and shirt and a brown v-neck sweater, Olivier was looking modern; especially since he has cut his hair which was quite long in the movie. Hadta ask him. Imagine him answering in that sexy French accent... TeenHollywood: You had long hair in the film. Now it's short. Did you cut it for a role? Olivier: Maybe one day I'll have it long again. I just cut it one morning because I was sick every morning of too much maintenance on my hair. TeenHollywood: Were you attracted to the script because the werewolf transformations weren't grotesque and the wolves are somewhat sympathetic? Olivier: Yeah, that's part of what convinced me to do the part because, as an actor, you never know how the special effects are going to end up when you deal with horror make-up so, sometimes, it works extremely well and sometimes it looks ridiculous. At least, in that case, I knew that my part would be done by a real wolf and I thought that was cool. Lane up north for reshoots
Producers of the movie Killshot are no doubt grateful for Ontario’s unseasonably mild winter. Even though a trailer for the flick is already out, new scenes were being shot last weekend in Port Perry with stars like Diane Lane. She and Thomas Jane play a couple placed in the witness protection program after witnessing a crime who find themselves the target of a cunning hit man (Mickey Rourke) and a psychopathic killer (Joseph Gordon Levitt). * * * Sometimes you’ve got to know when to fold ‘em. Interspecies mating is always a challenge, particularly when one species likes to eat the other. In the lupine love triangle "Blood & Chocolate," a reluctant Romanian werewolf named Vivian (Agnes Bruckner) spends her days making chocolates in a Bucharest candy store. If her customers could see how she celebrates the full moon, they would think twice before letting her handle their macaroons. Lurking in a church one evening, Vivian meets Aiden (Hugh Dancy), a cherubic graphic novelist researching the inner lives of werewolves. Soon it's Vivian's innards he's obsessed with, unaware that she's already promised to the leader of her pack, a sleek specimen named Gabriel (Olivier Martinez). Audience members still tingling from Martinez's seduction of Diane Lane in "Unfaithful" will agree that this is not much of a contest. Uninvolving and cliche-ridden (even shape-shifters, it seems, deserve a falling-in-love montage), "Blood & Chocolate" is "Romeo and Juliet" with fewer manners and more exotic dentition. Cribbing shamelessly from Joel Schumacher's 1987 vampire classic, "The Lost Boys," the director, Katja von Garnier, perches her pack on roofs and in rafters -- an aerial lifestyle that works for bats but seems a bit of a stretch for wolves. More in line with mythology is their vulnerability to silver cutlery; in the movie's best scene, Aiden battles for his love, armed only with a single place setting.
