Sa panayam ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) sa young actress-singer na si Ciara Sotto sa Eat
Bulaga! noong Friday, January 26, naikuwento niya na may offer sa kanya to perform in Las Vegas,
Nevada.
Ayon kay Ciara, same person din daw na kumuha noon kay Lani Misalucha ang kumausap sa kanya at
nag-alok na mag-perform sa Las Vegas. Bagama't hindi niya itinatanggi na interesado siya sa offer,
ayaw pa rin daw niyang magsalita about it hangga't hindi pa sila nagkakapirmahan ng kontrata or paalis
na siya.
"If ever, nakikita ko siya as a very good opportunity. So far, sa mga nakakaalam din, wala pang nagsabi
sa akin na hindi siya okay. Right now kasi, I can't talk too much about it dahil wala pa namang pirmahan
ng contract. But if ever, nire-ready ko na rin ang sarili ko to work in Las Vegas for a long time," simula
niyang pahayag.
Narinig daw kasi ng mismong contact person ang album ng dalaga nang minsang manood si Ciara,
kasama ang ilang members ng family niya, sa isa sa mga shows ni Lani abroad. Obviously, nagustuhan
nito ang naturang CD ni Ciara na may pagka-classical ang dating.
Bukod kay Ciara, may makakasama pa siyang dalawang artists—sina Rizza Navales at ang kapatid na
babae ni Lani. Kung matutuloy, silang tatlo ang magkakasamang magpe-perform sa bagong theater-
restaurant na bubuksan sa Las Vegas. Silang tatlo na rin daw if ever ang magbubukas nito early this year.
Kung matutuloy raw siya rito, posibleng mawala siya sa bansa for six straight months. After that, pwede
na raw siguro siyang magpabalik-balik dahil kung sakali, one year ang itatagal ng contract nila.
Siyempre pa, isa raw sa mami-miss niya ay ang kanyang Eat Bulaga! family.
"Sobra! Mami-miss ko silang talaga if ever man na matuloy ako. Lalo na sa part ko, nasanay na ako na
six days a week, umaga pa lang, sila na yung kasama ko," sabi ni Ciara.
Samantala, hiningan din namin ng reaksiyon si Ciara sa walang tigil na tisimis tungkol sa kasarian ng
kanyang loveteam na si Paolo Ballesteros. Ayon kay Ciara, matagal na raw niyang ipinagtatanggol ang
ka-loveteam sa isyung ito.
"Actually, okay lang. Kung totoo man yun, ganoon pa rin ang pagtingin ko sa kanya. No matter what,
kung girl ba siya or boy, mamahalin ko pa rin talaga siya kasi sobrang lalim na ng pinagsamahan
namin," pahayag ni Ciara.
"Si Paolo, sobrang alam niya lahat ng nangyayari sa akin. Nasasabi ko talaga sa kanya," patuloy niya.
In a way, hindi raw niya maiwasang makaramdam din ng awa sa ka-loveteam dahil madalas ito ang
napagdidiskitahan when it comes to gender issue.
"Naaawa ako sa kanya. Parang gusto kong sabihin na, ‘Why don't you just please mind your own
business?' Depende na rin kasi sa tao yun. May kanya-kanyang desisyon ang mga tao, huwag na lang
pilitin kung anuman ang gusto niyang gawin," paliwanag ng bunsong anak nina dating Senator Tito
Sotto and former actress-singer Helen Gamboa.
"With Paolo, dati ko na siyang dine-defend sa isyung ‘yan at alam naman niya yun. Now that ilang
artista na nga ang nagsasabi sa akin, deadma lang. E buhay ni Paolo yun e. Ayoko nang makialam,"
aniya pa.

Kung siya raw talaga ang tatanungin, hindi naniniwala si Ciara na bading si Paolo.
"No! E kasi napaka-maniac niya!" natatawang pagdedepensa pa rin niya kay Paolo.
On a personal level, Ciara admits na she has a constant date na non-showbiz. Pero aniya, wala pa raw
silang commitment na dalawa.
"I just know that this guy loves me so much. Pero ayoko munang mag-commit to anyone dahil gusto ko,
kung sinuman ang magiging boyfriend ko ngayon, yun na rin ang mapapangasawa ko," nakangiting sabi
ni Ciara.

Hip-hop’s Ciara dodges sophomore slump on new album, ‘The Evolution’
TWO YEARS AGO, SOME MUSIC critics and gay circuit queens called Ciara a one-hit wonder.
Her first track, “Goodies,” definitely seemed destined to join the long list of throwaways, but her debut
album wound up producing a string of highly successful singles, including the title track, “1,
2-Step” and “Oh.”
With the release of her sophomore follow-up, “The Evolution,” Ciara makes critics and fair-weather
fans eat some serious crow. The CD proves the barely legal hip-hop artist is no flash in the pan.
Despite her young age and having only one album under her belt, Ciara brings a clarity of purpose to her
work that much older and (supposedly) wiser artists would kill to have.
“I co-wrote every song and co-produced many of the tracks on this record so it really reflects where I am
as an artist,” she says of “The Evolution.” “I had an actual plan of what I wanted to hear and the sounds
I wanted on the record.”

TO THAT END, Ciara assembled a team of producers and songwriters to help her realize her vision and
to position “The Evolution” as a worthy follow-up to her Grammy-nominated debut. The Neptunes, will.
i.am, Rodney Jerkins, Lil’ John and Dallas Austin are among the big name collaborators who
shepherded the album to completion.
The first single from the album was “Get Up,” taken from the soundtrack of the film “Step Up.” Since
this track is pretty much a sequel to “Oh” from her debut, the sound is familiar and radio-friendly.
Ciara gets steamier on the second single, “Promise,” which has a sultry “take me to the bedroom and
seduce me” vibe. Ciara vows to “give her all” to her man, so the message of the track is clear: “You are
definitely getting lucky tonight.”
Crunk-meister Lil’ John rejoins his protégé on “That’s Right,” a bangin’ track made for hip-hop night
and guaranteed to pack the dance floor. You will shake your money-maker like never before, so consider
yourself warned.
“Make It Last Forever,” produced by Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, samples James Brown and “It Takes
Two” by Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock. The track is mid-tempo, which is somewhat surprising
considering the sampled material. And, yes, Ciara does provide her own take on the trademark “It Takes
Two” rap:
“I came to rock right now/ I’m C.C. and I came to get down/ I am internationally known/ And I’m
known to rock a microphone/ Because my hips is crazy/ I mean outrageous/ Boys just love me/ ‘Cause
I’m contagious like/ The way that I rock at a show/ Shuts the place down and now you know so let’s go,
oh.”

“THE EVOLUTION” IS ALMOST a perfect album, but one disappointment is the track produced by
golden boy will.i.am, who lays a rotten egg this time with “Get In, Fit In.”
Also, Ciara falls prey to one of the more annoying trends in music — spoken interludes. To her credit,
Ciara only offers four that are (thankfully) short. But does the world really need to hear her wax poetic
about her thoughts on the evolution of dance, music, fashion and her growth as an artist? Probably not.

Unlike so many hip-hop albums, “The Evolution” only samples other work on three tracks, which might
be a record.
Ciara turns out a respectable album sure to spawn another series of chart-topping hits. “The Evolution”
is a testament to Ciara’s ability to deliver great music to a diverse fan base and should help her make it
past the dreaded curse of the sophomore slump.
