AISHWARYA RAI TO WED BOLLYWOOD HUNK

Bride And Prejudice beauty Aishwarya Rai and fellow actor Abhishek Bachchan have announced their engagement, ending months of will they won't they speculation. By uniting two of India's most famous film stars the match is one made in Bollywood heaven.

The happy couple took part in a special engagement ceremony at the Bachchan residence in Mumbai on Sunday. Close friends and family were on hand to help them celebrate the occasion, while crowds waited outside for a glimpse of the silver screen stars who have been keen to keep their romance under wraps.

Only days earlier the pair, who were promoting their Bollywood flick Guru in Toronto, had dodged reporters' questions about the status of their relationship. The news comes one and a half months after the pair were spotted offering prayers at a Hindu temple with Abhishek's parents.

Emerald-eyed Aishwarya, 33, who is considered by many to be Bollywood's leading lady, has co-starred in several films with her husband-to-be. The son of Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, he was recently voted the sexiest Asian man by a British newspaper. A date for the ceremony has yet to be announced.

MUMBAI: A court in central India yesterday heard statements from a lawyer complaining that an on-
screen kiss by Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai and co-star Hrithik Roshan contravened the country's
strict laws against obscenity.

The court in Indore city recorded statements from a local lawyer, Shailendra Dwivedi, who filed the
complaint over last year's biggest grossing Bollywood film, Dhoom 2.
The case is to be heard on January 25.

Bachchan became engaged on Sunday.
The two actors are the biggest couple in Bollywood.
The engagement between Abhishek, who turns 31 on February 5, and 33-year-old Aishwarya, was held

The former Miss World, who has a reported 17,000 websites dedicated to her, is marrying another of
India's biggest cinema stars, Abhishek Bachchan.
The couple dubbed India's Brangelina, got engaged on Sunday evening.
The announcement ends months of feverish speculation in the Indian media about their relationship.
Bachchan's father, Amitabh, also a famous Indian actor, said: 'No date for marriage has been fixed yet.'
He said that his son had proposed to Rai in New York last week after the world premiere of their latest
film entitled Guru.
TV channels and newspapers, however, said the marriage could take place as early as next month, with
some suggesting February 19 or March 7 as possible dates.
The Bachchan family has booked a top luxury hotel for these days, the reports said.
Rai, 33, and Bachchan, 30, have worked together on at least five films, and both have been in the past
romantically linked to other Bollywood stars.
Bachchan was engaged to Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor in 2002, but the marriage was called off.
Rai, who has acted in over 40 films, including Bride and Prejudice, was crowned Miss World in 1994.
Bachchan has acted in about 40 films.

Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai were greeted by about 1,000 giddy, shrieking fans amid a blaze of camera flashes and TV lights at the Elgin & Winter Garden Theater Center in downtown Toronto. Top Bollywood director Mani Ratnam and composer A.R. Rahman were also on the red carpet. Before being whisked into the screening, Bollywood's royalty -- nicknamed "India's Brangelina" after Hollywood royalty Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie -- stopped to wave and blow kisses to fans, many of whom had waited for hours waiting for a glimpse of the pair. "The Indian film industry, as you know, is the largest film industry in the world. And we want to reach out to the audience overseas," Bachchan told TV reporters outside the theater. "So it's wonderful to come here in person and actually premiere a movie -- you know, mainstream," said Rai. of GURU starring Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya in the lead role.
GURU tells the story of a village boy who dares to dream and how he realizes his dream.

Abhishek Bachchan as Gurukanth Desai is the son of a strict school headmaster. Guru fails in his school
leaving examination, but finds himself a job in Turkey. Leaving behind a disappointed father, Guru
takes up work in a petroleum company in Turkey as a delivery boy. He is a keen observer and a quick
learner and is soon promoted as a sales supervisor. However he quits his job and returns to the country
nurturing the dream of starting his own enterprise.

A naive villager fuelled by ambition and dreams Guru builds a corporate empire, the first of its kind in
independent India. But in the pursuit of his dreams his character goes through a transition. His
unconventional ways of doing business is often questioned by the media baron Manickam Rajagopal
whom Guru fondly calls 'nanaji.' Manickam also loves him.

It is a real pleasure seeing Mithun Chakraborty back on screen in the role of Manickam and he portrays
the character with aplomb. Madhavan is Manickam's favorite journalist in love with Vidya Balan,
Manickam's grand daughter suffering from multiple sclerosis.

The story moves on with never a dull moment, the film resting entirely on Abhishek Bachchan who has
given a remarkable performance. Portraying Guru from his twenties to the time he is sixty, Abhishek
often reminds one of the Big B. Aishwarya Rai as the dignified and strong wife of Guru has matured as
an actress. Needless to say, that the chemistry between the two is just great.

Mallika Sherawat makes a cameo appearance in the role of a belly dancer and does an item number.
Arya Babbar as Sujatha's brother makes quite an impression. The music is by A.R. Rahman and the
Mani Ratnam signature is seen in the group numbers and the 'Barso re' song picturised with Aishwarya
Rai in the rain.
