The secret romance of Rai and Bachchan, the son of legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, culminated in a private engagement ceremony in which Abhishek reportedly placed a diamond ring on Aishwarya's finger.

Aishwarya Rai, 33, and Abhishek Bachchan, 30, have worked together on at least five films, and both have been in the past romantically linked to other Bollywood stars. Bachchan was even engaged to Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor in 2002, but the marriage was called off.

"No date for marriage has been fixed yet," the senior Bachchan told reporters, adding that his son had proposed to Rai in New York last week after the world premiere of their latest film entitled "Guru."

The wedding could reportedly take place as early as next month, with some suggesting February 19 or March 7 as possible dates. The Bachchan family has booked a top luxury hotel for these days, the reports said.

However, astrological readings of two stars were reportedly not in harmony, a key ingredient to any engagement in astrology-mad India. Nevertheless, their future looks rosy. "This year is going to be very good and productive for him in which new developments are seen," astrologer Arun Sharma told NDTV channel. "Even for Aishwarya her stars are strong. MUMBAI, India (AP) - Bollywood movie stars Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai are engaged and will marry later this year, the former Miss World's manager confirmed Monday, ending months of speculation about their relationship.

Rai and Bachchan exchanged engagement rings in a small ceremony before a small group of relatives and friends late Sunday, Hari Singh told The Associated Press. "Yes, it is true. Abhishek and Aishwarya are engaged," Singh said. "The wedding will definitely take place this year."

The couple was in Toronto last week for the splashy premiere of their film "Guru," and there had been speculation they might announce their engagement while visiting the city.

There has been talk for several months about the love lives of the two actors, and news of their engagement was the top story in several Indian newspapers. The Times of India newspaper reported the wedding would take place in February or March.

"The children (Abhishek and Aishwarya) have decided (to marry)," Amitabh Bachchan, Bollywood legend and Abhishek's father, told The Times of India. "We are very happy."

Abhishek Bachchan, 31, and Rai, 33, have worked together in several movies.

In "Guru," Bachchan plays a man from a small Indian village who works his way to becoming a top industrialist and Rai plays his supportive wife.

The two also starred in a period drama "Umrao Jaan," "Kuch Na Kaho" or "Say No More" and "Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke" or "Two and A Half Words of Love."

Rai has acted in more than 30 movies.

Bachchan comes from a famous Bollywood movie family - his father, Amitabh, and mother, Jaya, are among India's best known actors.

The gorgeous Aishwarya Rai , who is all set to become the daughter-in-law of the Bachchan household, now has another reason to celebrate.

Ash, who got engaged to her Guru co-star Abhishek Bachchan on Sunday, is among 25 Indians who figure in this year's list of 250 Global Young Leaders by the Geneva-based World Economic Forum.

Those chosen for the honour also include director Karan Johar, MPs Omar Abdullah, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Naveen Jindal, Managing Editor of NDTV Vikram Chandra, Chief Managing Editor of HT Media Raju Narisetti and Prince Shivraj Singh of Jodhpur.

The Forum selects young leaders from various fields every year based on their professional accomplishments, their commitment to society and their potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world. The selection committee is chaired by Queen Rainaof Jordan.

Also on the list are MP B G Pundlikrao, Chief Financial Officer of ICICI Bank Vishka Mulye, Vice President of Tata Sons Mukand Govind Rajan, Managing Director of Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Satish Reddy, Vice President Infosys Technologies Subhash Dhar and President of the Parks Hotels India Priya Paul.

The Young Global Leaders 2007 include 125 business leaders, as well as leaders from governments, academia, media and society at large from nearly 70 countries.

Together, they form a powerful international force for the global common good," said Klaus Schwab, Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum in New York on Tuesday.
