The Mani Ratnam directed flick is India’s first mainstream international premiere in Canada. Says Mayor. David Miller in a press release, "It's a pleasure to host the world premiere of ‘Guru’ in Toronto. This presentation represents a landmark event for the city of Toronto and all of Canada. It is an unprecedented occasion for the city to have film artists of the stature of Mani Ratnam, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, along with the producer Bobby Bedi . That they would select our city is an indication of the high regard Indian filmmakers have for Toronto. This is an opportunity to bring Indian Cinema to a larger appreciative audience and, at the same time, to further develop economic, creative and personal ties between our two countries." Abhishek, who plays the main protagonist in the film seemed pretty excited about ‘Guru’ being the first film to be premiered in Canada. Says Abhishek, "Hello, I'm Abhishek Bachchan. You have always come to see my movies and now its time to come and see you. Join me for the world premiere of my film ‘Guru’ in Toronto, Jan 11, 2007. The organizers are expecting around 10,000 people to line up the street for a glimpse of Abhishek and Ash for the red carpet premiere in true Hollywood style. When Aishwarya Rai hugged Vidya BalanThere is apparently no truth in rumours about cold vibes between Aishwarya Rai and Vidya Balan on the sets of Mani Ratnam’s film Guru . Even though her role in the film is not very big, Vidya has some fond memories from the movie’s shooting. Most of her scenes in the movie are with Madhavan . Vidya has few scenes with Abhishek and only one scene with Ash in the film. Vidya recalls the day when she shot with Ash. She recounts that before the shoot a couple of people on the set were nervous and she herself was filled with anticipation of shooting with Ash. “I was not nervous, but slightly anxious. And then Aishwarya walked up to me and gave me a warm hug and said ‘I hope you are okay’. That gesture really got me relaxed,” Vidya says. She adds: “Ash is dignity personified.” About Abhishek, Vidya says he was “a livewire on the sets” and always full of fun. ‘Guru’ has Vidya playing a handicapped woman. Abhishek plays a man who comes from a village to the city with a dream to make it big. How he realizes his dream with sheer struggle and perseverance is what the movie is about. Ash plays a woman who is married to Guru against her wishes, but she starts loving him as time passes. Priests wash the temple with ‘Gangajal’ after Aishwarya Rai ’s visitPriests at the Brahma temple in Pushkar performed a ‘Sadbuddhi’ yagna (fire ritual) and ‘Shanti paath’ for Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai on Sunday and washed the temple with ‘Gangajal’ to purify the premises after her visit. The purification ritual was performed after it was discovered that the three security guards who accompanied Rai inside the temple were ‘drunk’. The priests of the Pushkar temple in Ajmer want actress Aishwarya Rai to apologise for her bodyguard who allegedly entered the shrine drunk and abused devotees on Thursday. The trust organised special prayers called shanti paath and sadbuddhi yajna on Saturday at the Pushkar lake so that Aishwarya gets the “wisdom” to offer an apology, said S N Garg, secretary of the Teerth Purohit Sangh Trust. The security men had got into a small scuffle with journalists as the doe-eyed actress was leaving the temple premises. While Rai denied the allegations, saying there was no truth to them, the Priests Association decided to conduct the ‘purification’ ceremony at the temple and the ritual was done by the association president Laddoo Ram Sharma himself. The priests also performed a ‘Sadbuddhi Yagna’ for her. The association has also called for an apology from the Bollywood star, saying that their protest will continue till she tenders an apology. “We will hold a meeting of the association soon to discuss the future course of action,” Sharma told PTI. The Brahma temple of Pushkar is the only temple dedicated to Brahma in the world. During her visit to Pushkar, Rai also paid obeisance at the Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Dargah. The priests are also ‘disappointed’ with the former Miss World by the way she performed puja at the Brahma temple, ‘ignoring’ to pay a visit to the sacred ‘Pushkar Sarovar’.
