Uma Thurman fronts £20m Virgin Media campaign
NTL:Telewest has secured Kill Bill star Uma Thurman (pictured) to front its £20 million rebrand as Virgin Media. The campaign, which is rumoured to launch on February 14, is to promote Virgin Media's "quad play" of services including mobile, TV, broadband and fixed-line telephony. Uma Thurman has been announced as the star in the £20m rebranding campaign. It will be interesting to see the extent of the Virgin Media campaign, and the reaction it will bring from competitors. There are signs that the group will launch a 20Mbps broadband product during 2007 and possibly a 50Mbps product may start to appear, which will see it competing with the ADSL2+ providers, and if a 50Mbps product is launched beating what is possible with ADSL2+ by a large margin. The 'Pulp Fiction' actress is the face of a marketing campaign, which will air next month, announcing to customers that digital TV, telephone and internet service provider NTL has been re-branded as Virgin Media. NTL merged with Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Mobile company last year in a £961 million deal. James Kydd, managing director of Virgin Media marketing, said: "We are thrilled that Uma will be helping us launch the most exciting and the biggest Virgin branded company in the world." The merger sees Virgin Media become the UK's first "quadruple play" media company - combining TV, fixed line telephone, broadband internet and mobile phones. Uma, 36, is not the first big name star to front a Virgin campaign.
