Natasha Bedingfield
Natasha Bedingfield's American Dream Amusement
British pop star Natasha Bedingfield is amused at the lengths she went to in order to crack the US music
charts - she even played in a contest winner's backyard. The singer was the first British female to get to number one in the US charts with Unwritten since Kim
Wilde in the 1980s, and she puts her Stateside success down to her willingness to start all over again.
She tells Cosmopolitan magazine, "I knew that in order to make it in America, I had to be willing to start
over. You have to take a step down to take a step up and not many singers are prepared to do that.
"It was a humbling experience. I sang anywhere and everywhere. "Once there was a 'Bedingfield Barbeque', where someone won the chance to have me sing at their
house. I didn't really know anything about it until I got to the winner's house and smelt the sausages
cooking. There was no microphone, nothing. I just sang in this family's back yard.
Natasha Bedingfield Is Her Own Person
British pop singer
Natasha Bedingfield refused to change her personality in a bid to find fame in
America, despite the attempts of staff at her record company. Bedingfield was told she needed to be more outrageous to be noticed in the US, but she was convinced
her music was good enough to make her a star. She tells the UK edition of Cosmopolitan magazine, "They thought I needed a bit more scandal! I said,
'Right, you want me to have worked this hard to sleep with the president or shoplift just to get a
headline?' Celebrity News Archive
