LAWRENCE -- The McPherson YMCA Gympups recently attended the Winter Cup Invitational meet in Lawrence. The meet, which was hosted by Lawrence Gymnastics Academy, had 11 teams in attendance from the northeast part of the state.

The Gympups did extremely well in both team and individual competition. In the team competition, the Level 4 and the Level 8 girls finished in first place. The Level 7 group took second-place honors and the Level 5 girls were strong with a fourth-place finish

At Level 4 in the 6- to 8-year-old age group, Kinslie Dougherty took first on bars and beam and second on vault. This led to a first-place finish in the all-around with a score of 36.175. Finishing right behind her was Megan Pederson and Paige Richert. Pederson had two seconds and two eighths for a second all-around finish with a 35.50 score. Richert had a first on floor, one second and two sixths to finish third all-around with a 35.45.

In the 9- to 10 -year-old age group, Taylor Neufeldt placed first on beam, second on vault and bars and fourth on floor. This made her the first place all-around finisher with a score of 36.975. This score was the highest all-around score turned in by any Level 4 in the competition,

Level 5 was paced by Payton Shook and Lacy Dimitt. Shook placed first on vault. She also took home two sixths and a seventh for an all-around finish of 33.70, which was good for third place. On her heels was Dimitt with a score of 33.65. She had a fourth, a fifth, a seventh and an eighth for a fourth place all-around finish.

Level 6 top finishers were Marisa Miller and Tanya Myers. Miller had a first on the balance beam. She also was second on floor and fifth on bars. This was good for a second place all-around finish with a score of 33.425. Myers was first on bars and second on vault. She also had a fifth and a sixth for a third place all-around. Her score was 33.20. Level 7 had several standouts. At age 9 and 10 Katlyn Reifschneider took second place all-around honors with an all-around score of 35.55. She had two seconds on bars and beam and two fourths on vault and floor. At the 12- to 14-age group, Heidi Heidebrecht was the leader of the pack. She took first on vault, beam and floor. She also had a third on bars. She took first place all-around with a score of

36.00. Also placing high were Jamie Hansen and Courtney Pavlik. Hansen had a second and two fourths for a third place all-around with a score of 33.75. Pavlik had a third and a fourth to get a fourth place all-around finish with a score of 33.10.

Level 8 saw all three girls take the awards stand. At age 10 and 11, Corbin Blomberg took first on vault and floor, and second on bars and beam. This gave her a first place all-around score of 33.275.

At age 12 and up, Anna Eigruber led the way with a first place all-around with the score of 34.35. She had firsts on vault and floor. She also had third on beam. Right behind her was Tess Ingermanson, who was second in the all-around with a 34.00. She was first on beam, second on floor and vault, and third on bars.
