Amanda Bynes Grabs Seven Dorks

Cuter than cute former teen actress Amanda Bynes has grown up and graduated from kids’ movies to college comedies. Variety reports that she’s been cast to star in the new Morgan Creek movie Sydney White and the Seven Dorks.

The Joe Nussbaum directed movie is about a college freshman (Bynes) who pledges her decease mother’s sorority, only to find the once dignified house has fallen on hard times. She finds herself living with seven outcasts whom she tries to transform into cooler members of the school’s social system. I hated this movie the first time when it was called Van Wilder 2. This can’t possibly be worse.

Amanda has just finished working on a much bigger project, the new movie musical version of Hairspray. She plays Penny Pingleton. The last place you saw her in theaters was cross-dressing in the 2006 teen smash She’s the Man.

to Orlando to make a movie.
It's called Sydney White, at this stage, and is about a girl who pledges her mom's old sorority, only to
find it fallen on hard times (shedding tiny, tiny tear).
She leads a gang of misfits and turns them into a primo Greek house...hey, this is VAN WILDER 2, no?
Whatever. Said it before and I will say it again. She's the best comedienne of her generation. She just
finished shooting Hairspray. And shooting starts here on Sydney Feb. 12.
She was last here, if memory serves, getting slimed on Nickelodeon's Slimetime Live, plugging Big Fat
Liar. She was funny and quotable, no mean feat for a very young teen, or Tween, which she was then.

Joe Nussbaum is directing Sydney White; production is scheduled to begin February 12th in Orlando, Florida.

Amanda Bynes has landed the starring role in the new Morgan Creek comedy Sydney White, it was announced today by James G. Robinson, Chairman and CEO of Morgan Creek Productions.

This modern retelling of the classic fairytale follows a beautiful college freshman as she pledges her late mother's once dignified sorority. But after discovering that today's sisterhood is not what it used to be, Sydney finds her new home away from home with seven outcasts. With the help of her socially challenged new friends, Sydney will take on the reigning campus queen to attempt to transform the school's misguided social hierarchy.

The film will be directed by Joe Nussbaum (American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile, Sleepover) and is scheduled to begin principal photography on February 12, 2007 in Orlando, Florida. The film also stars Sara Paxton ("Darcy's Wild Life") and Matt Long ("Jack and Bobby"). The screenplay was written by Chad Creasey (Great Lengths) and will be produced by James G. Robinson. David Robinson and Clifford Werber will also serve as producers with Morgan Creek's Guy McElwaine executive producing. The film will be distributed domestically by Universal Pictures and internationally by Morgan Creek International and Universal Pictures International.

Amanda Bynes recently completed shooting the feature film Hairspray, opposite John Travolta, Queen Latifah and Michelle Pfieiffer, where she plays Tracey Turnblad's best friend Penny Pingleton. She also starred in the romantic comedy She's the Man; the trans-Atlantic comedy What a Girl Wants, with Colin Firth and Kelly Preston; lent her voice to the animated film Robots; and starred with Frankie Muniz and Paul Giamatti in the family comedy Big Fat Liar. On television, Bynes played the impetuous Holly in the comedy series "What I Like About You," as well as "The Amanda Show," which earned her the Favorite Television Actress honor four years in a row from Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards.

The flick was previously titled Sidney White and the Seven Dorks. Which gets the gag over, whereas to my mind Sidney White means nothing at all!
